Gridlock to Gears of War is like Nuketown to Call of Duty: Black Ops. One of those maps that has followed the series throughout every iteration, and here, we get to see the remade classic in Gears of War 4, courtesy of Nvidia.
With Gears of War 4, there’s a lot more colour following the regrowth of Sera, but that’s before we discover the Swarm, the game’s new enemy. Still, looking at the thumbnail for Gridlock before even starting the video, you can just see how it’s a lot brighter, like how the original Gridlock was. Gears 3 featured the map in a night time setting, with the ash figures littered around. I wonder if the same ‘Mad World’ easter egg will make an appearance this time around.
Gridlock is a superb asymmetrical map which is known for its sniper tower in the centre, with the frag grenades directly below it. Then you have the two corner buildings facing the sniper tower, and the Boomshot spawn between them. The ‘flower pots’, as friends and I refer to them down by both sides of the sniper tower stair cases can lead to some great close up shotty battles and trying to lose your target. I can’t wait for more madness on this map.
Not only do we get a full flyover of Gridlock, we also get a look at the returning Guardian game mode on it. This mode came into the series in Gears 2, with both sides possessing a VIP that had to be protected. As long as the VIP stayed alive, his team could respawn endlessly. Last VIP standing wins.
Gears of War 4 is out on October 11th for Xbox One and Windows 10. Niiiiiice!
