Gran Turismo Sport, which was revealed earlier this year will not be crossing the finish line of development in 2016. Instead, the game will be delayed into 2017, missing its November-penned release date, but no other specifics have been stated.
“As we approach our planned release date in November, we realize we need more time to perfect GT Sport, which we’ve already dedicated so much effort towards since announcing the title,” Polyphony Digital founder Kazunori Yamauchi said on the PlayStation Blog. “We do not want to compromise the experience in any way. While we cannot confirm a new release date at this time, we are more committed than ever to making GT Sport the best Gran Turismo game to date.”
While Gran Turismo Sport isn’t trying to be Gran Turismo 7, it’s aiming to be a really competitive online racer with tournaments and offers players the opportunity to acquire an actual real life racing license just from taking part. Well, once you prove yourself as a top tier race driver that is.
Perhaps the delay is intended to coincide with the release of the PlayStation Neo, or whatever the system will be called, when revealed on September 7th. It seems likely, but we don’t know when that console will release just yet. It’s an interesting theory, but with so many years between each iteration of Gran Turismo, it’s not surprise to see this taking longer than initially expected.
