Google’s New VR Short Film, ‘Pearl’

PearlLast weekend at the Tribeca film festival Google’s Spotlight Stories Team premiered their new animated short, Pearl, on the HTC Vive.

Pearl is directed by Patrick Osborne, the Oscar-nominated director of the Disney short, Feast.

The film takes place “entirely in a car, and will use musical format to explore the theme of ‘gifts we inherit from our parents, both tangible and intangible’”. Pearl is a coming-of-age story about a girl growing up with her musician father.

There are certain trigger points throughout the film that allow the users to influence the pacing of the story, depending on what they’re observing at that moment. Pearl can last from five and a half minutes to seven minutes.

Pearl will be released on YouTube in the coming weeks.
