Pokémon GO has rolled out to even more countries across the world, and managed to knock its own servers offline for a few hours during Saturday thanks to the high demand. And rightly so, as it’s a superb game that’s trending like nothing else in the mobile market. But how do you start your adventures with Pikachu as your starter? Here’s how!
When you first load up the game, you’re asked to enter a user name and create your avatar. Once you’re placed in the game world, ie your home location or wherever you start the game, you will be offered one of three Pokémon. These are Charmander, Squirtle and Bulbasaur.
What if you don’t want either of them? Well, what you can do is physically walk away from them. Yep, walk down the street, and eventually they will spring up in front of you on the map again. Keep walking. On their third or fourth ‘respawning’, you will notice that Pikachu will join them on the screen. Tap your finger over him, and you will be tasked with catching him. Once done, he is then your starting Pokémon, and you can feel like Ash Ketchum.
Pokémon GO has so far spawned an amazing amount of stories across the globe, from trainers finding dead bodies, supposedly getting run over, and in more positive news, meeting and making new friends. Always remember to look left and right when crossing a road, and use some common sense with out of reach Pokémon. Don’t go walking off cliffs or swimming in lakes and oceans with your phone… Seriously!
