Xbox and The Coalition have released the latest trailer for Gears of War 4, and it’s one of those Gears trailers that often get talked about. Whether it’s ‘Mad World’, or Mazzy Star’s ‘Into Dust’, Gears of War trailers just have a spark, and so does the latest trailer.
The trailer begins showing Marcus Fenix doing a spot of gardening, having defeated the Locust and thus the rebuilding of humanity on Sera. We see Anya in the garden with him, alongside their son, who we know to be J.D. The trailer cuts from the garden of their home, to J.D running through the forest, in a chase scene involving the new foes of Gears of War 4, the Swarm.
We don’t know much about the Swarm right now, but we’re sure we’ll be filled in during E3. Also in the trailer, we see Marcus carving J.D’s initials into a tree, and what keen-eyed fans will pick up on, is that he’s using Dom’s knife to do so. I wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out that the D in J.D’s name is in fact Dom, or Dominic, (SPOILERS) Marcus’ friend who sacrificed himself for his friends in Gears of War 3.
Gears 4 is set 25 years after the events of Gears of War 3, with society being rebuilt, and players will take control of Marcus’ son J.D on his next adventure alongside his two friends Delmont ‘Del’ Walker and Kait Diaz.
Fans have questioned whether or not that is actually Anya in the trailer alongside Marcus. This has been confirmed by Adam Fletcher, aka PezRadar on Twitter who is the director of the community side of Gears of War at The Coalition. “Yes. It is Anya.”
You will also notice the song in the trailer, which is Disturbed’s cover version of The Sound of Silence. Gears of War 4 is out on October 11th and a closed beta will be taking place as of April 18th for those who picked up the Gears of War Ultimate Edition.
