Entertainment Weekly are the lucky bunch who got to announce the release date and box art for upcoming Xbox One shooter, Gears of War 4. First revealed at E3 last year, we didn’t know much else about the game until a few weeks ago, and with a beta looming, we now have an official release date.
Gears of War 4 will launch on Xbox One on October 11th, thanks to Rod Ferguson and The Coalition who have had their heads down for the past few years working on the follow up to the Xbox 360’s much loved trilogy. Oh, and there was some game called ‘Judgment’ which I still refuse to acknowledge.
We also get our first look at the box art, which unfortunately features a watermark obscuring its awesomeness, but you can still see the nice artwork, and if you look closely at the background to the left of the centre, you may see a familiar looking icon in statue form.
Gears of War 4 sees you playing as JD Fenix, the son of Marcus in a world set 25 years after the events of Gears of War 3. He is joined by fellow characters and friends Kait Diaz, and Del Walker. The campaign is said to be set over a 24 hour period, and that the campaign will be playable in two player co-op, unlike Gears 3 and…Judgment.
Last month, we got a glance at two of the new weapons coming to Gears of War 4, and they include the Buzzkill and the Dropshot which you can read about here. The Gears 4 beta will go live on April 18th for those who picked up Gears of War Ultimate Edition between its launch last year, and April 11th next week, and it’s likely that everyone will eventually get a chance to try it out during its duration.
Entertainment Weekly had a chance to talk to Rod Ferguson about Gears of War, which you can read up on here in their interview.
