Who wants to watch the first 20 minutes of any game they plan on buying anyway? Not many, but this one might be one that you’ll be open to. The Coalition and Xbox have released this opening video for Gears of War 4 which serves as both a history lesson for the uninitiated, and those who may have forgotten what happened in the series.
It also serves as a tutorial mode, teaching you the basic mechanics of the game such as movement, cover, the ever memorable reloading system, and squad orders. What’s most interesting though, is that it lets you experience a taste of The Pendulum Wars, the civil war that took place before the Locusts emerged on E-day. This has never been witnessed in the game, as much as Gears fans want to see it taking place.
After that, you get to experience some of E-day itself, as well as the end of the Locust war, which happened during Gears 3. As you should most likely be aware, Gears of War 4 is set 25 years after Gears 3, with the lead role being handed down to Marcus Fenix’s son, J.D.
It all sounds very good, and as a Gears super fan, I’m certainly excited about the amount of effort put into the title thus far.
Gears of War 4 launches on Xbox One and Windows 10 on October 11th, and is a Play Anywhere title, meaning you get it for both platforms when you purchase it.
