This week in China, the annual digital entertainment expo took place in Shanghai, and GamesCore had the opportunity to interview Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, about the Xbox One, Window 10, backwards compatibility and the long term plan. One point noted was how the focus is more on first party exclusives, and less on third party exclusive deals, such as Tomb Raider, we imagine. Good!
“My strategy is more around our own first party franchises, and investing in franchises that we own, and probably fewer exclusive deals for third party content. I want to have strong third party relations, but paying for many third party exclusives isn’t our long term strategy.“
During the interview, Phil Spencer also discusses the Elite controller, which hits stores later this year. The pricey controller is aimed at the more professional gamer, offering quality, precision and customisation. He doesn’t expect everyone to buy it. There’s more to the interview, which lasts just short of ten minutes, if you’re interested in hearing what Phil has to say.
We shall see more of Phil Spencer next week at Gamescom in Germany, when the Xbox presentation takes stage on Tuesday, showing off Quantum Break, Scalebound and Crackdown, among other titles.
