Microsoft has announced that August’s Games with Gold program will offer Metal Gear Solid : Ground Zeroes from 16th August through to 15th September Along with How to Survive: Storm Warning Edition on Xbox One from 16th August to 15th September.
On Xbox 360, the atmospheric post-apocalyptic shooter, Metro 2033 will be available for free from 1st August to 15th August. Its thrilling sequel, Metro: Last Light, will be free from 16th August to 31st August.
A game that was criticized by many for being the epitome of Quality over Quantity, Ground Zeroes was seen as a short preview in the run up to arguably the most anticipated release in 2015. Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain which is due to release in September, initiates the beginning of the hardcore gaming season.
Despite being overpriced at launch, Ground Zeroes is certainly a beautiful looking game with high fidelity graphics and a gritty sense of atmosphere. Gameplay has been improved for the better according to the majority of MGS fans, with improved controls and fluid stealth mechanics. You will find yourself highly immersed as you infiltrate a military stronghold, rescuing prisoners being held captive throughout the facility.
Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light are rated highly among fans of atmospheric, survival horror shooters.
I had the pleasure of playing through both of them last month and was very surprised by just how much detail was put into the environments and depth of characters across the board. Based in Russia, you play as Artyom, a soldier who has been born and bred in the Metro after his people survived a nuclear holocaust which unleashed a scourge of hellish monsters known as ‘The Dark Ones’.
