The United Kingdom’s biggest high street video game retailer GAME have once again disappointed their customers having been affected by yet more technical glitches which have inevitably led to them cancelling pre-orders. The latest game to be affected is Fallout 4, and to make things worse it’s the eagerly sought after “Pip-Boy Edition” that’s being cancelled.
By our count this is the fifth time that GAME have hit the headlines, earlier this year the retailer had to cancel several Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain pre-orders including special edition versions of the game when a glitch of their systems caused payment problems for a large number of online customers. Following that issues arose when customers were overcharged £100’s for Nintendo Wii U exclusive title, Super Mario Maker. Microsoft were responsible for the next issue however, where GAME were under-supplied with the Elite Xbox One controller, meaning several customers, including one of the 4-One Gaming admins had to wait past the launch date. Finally the company found themselves in short supply of store Gift Cards, after one of their Scotland Branch managers somehow managed to order the entire companies stock. Which is frankly more comedy than anything else.
Fortunately most of this issues were rectified but it’s difficult to see how GAME will sort the latest issues with Fallout 4. Pip-Boy Editions of the game have been notoriously difficult to come by purely because of the desirability of the wearable device included. The Bethesda store recently posted that they had Pip-Boy Editions back in stock on two occasions only to then run out just fifteen minutes after posting.
To add insult to injury GAME seem to have thrown all customers affected in the dark by closing their store phone lines off to the public and putting most customers who phoned their customer service help line on hold for extended periods of time while they try to find a solution. Twitter however can not be silenced and customers have expressed their displeasure online instead as can be seen in the image to the right (viewer discretion is advised).
It’s easy to see why this people are so upset especially when you consider that some of them have had their Pip-Boys reserved since June of this year when the game was officially revealed to the public. As of yet we’re yet to hear anything from GAME in relation to the issue but it does only seem to be those who chose to pre-order online that have been affected, though this is yet to be confirmed by GAME. I personally reserved my copy in-store and have yet to be contacted with anything notifying me that my pre-order has been affected. Regardless I will continue to try to contact my local store throughout the rest of the day.
[Update]: If you pre-ordered the Pip-Boy Edition in store, GAME have confirmed that your reservation is unaffected.
So, if you pre-ordered the Fallout 4 Pip-Boy Edition we’d highly recommend you check your emails as a lot of customers have already been notified. We’ll be sure to keep our ears close to the ground with this one and report as soon as we hear anything in terms of an update on the story.
[Update]: An internal email has confirmed that pre-orders have once again been cancelled due to payment issues with individual customers. It is currently unknown whether or not fault lies with GAME or the customers that have been affected.
Fallout 4 launches on Xbox One, PS4 and PC on November 10th.
