As we pick our Games of the Year for 2016 our attention naturally turns to what the following year has in store for us and the industry. I thought I’d share with you what some of my most anticipated games are for the coming year. 2017 is going to be a big year for the big 3 console platforms with PlayStation looking to build it’s VR and PS4 Pro platforms and with the Nintendo Switch and Xbox Scorpio releasing next year it’s certainly going to be interesting and expensive.
Console wise I’m totally hyped for the Nintendo Switch, I think it looks really promising with its 720p mobile gaming feature and as 1080p home console capability with some of the best first party ip’s coming too I think it’s going to be a fantastic machine. I’m undecided as to whether I’m going to invest in Scorpio as it’s going to cost a lot of money to fork out for a compatible TV and the console but we’ll see if Microsoft can persuade me.
So on to games then What am I looking forward too? Well as it turns out there’s a few that I’m really looking forward too and I thought it’d be easier to just do a list with a brief explanation as to what the game is and why I’m looking forward to it.so without further ado lets dive in, in no particular order.
Ghost Recon Wildlands
An upcoming open world tactical shooter video game in development by Ubisoft Paris Wildlands is set in Bolivia. Together with friends or on your own with friendly AI you can plan and execute your missions how you see fit. I wasn’t blown away by the reveal trailer for this game but subsequent trailers have shown massive improvement. With other games like The Division having so many issues early on it would be wise to be cautious but I just can’t help but be a little bit hyped for Ghost Recon Wildlands . Beta registration is open via the games website, the game is scheduled for a March Release.
Sea of Thieves
This game captured my heart at E3 this year and the more I see of the game the more I fall in love. it’s basically a pirate sim that allows you to team up with your friends and sail the seven seas and plunder other pirate ships of their valuable treasure….or you can just get drunk. Developed by Rare many fans are hoping this signals a return to form for the fan favourite developer No fixed release date has been given yet but however long it takes I’m going to be very excited to get my hands on it.
Mass Effect: Andromeda
Whilst I’ve played parts of the previous Mass effect games I’m by no means a devoted fan but Andromeda certainly has caught my attention and finishing Mass Effect 2 before this releases has now become a priority. Mass Effect: Andromeda is an action role-playing third-person shooter game developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts. The game takes place 600 years after the events of the first three Mass Effect games in the Andromeda Galaxy. Your character’s intergalactic journey began during the time that Mass Effect 2 takes place. Players choose from either a male or a female sibling and are the children of Alec Ryder – an N7 special forces soldier – and designated as a Pathfinder, an operative tasked with discovering new planets for the Human species to colonize. They will explore an open world galaxy aboard the Tempest.
Horizon Zero Dawn
This game caught gamers attention at E3 and is highly anticipated. Whilst I won’t be able to play the game due to not having a PS4 I’m excited to see what the game is about and hopefully live up to its potential. I do occasionally enjoy a “Let’s Play” on you Tube so this may certainly be a candidate for that. Either way it looks very interesting and visually stunning. An action role playing game developed by Guerrilla Games and slated for a March ’17 release gamers will play as Aloy, a hunter and archer who lives in a world overrun by robots. Having been cloistered her whole life, she sets out to discover the dangers that kept her sheltered for so long. the game world features mechanised dinosaurs and as Jurassic park has taught us, no all dinosaurs are purple and friendly.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
There is only one game that excites me more than any other in 2017 and it’s a Zelda game. By the time Breath of the Wild arrives in 2017, the Zelda series will be over 30 years old. It will be released on WiiU and the upcoming Nintendo Switch, which I am also very excited over. In many ways Breath of the Wild is more like the older Zelda games that you got on the NES as it will be open world that is infested with nasty things looking to be unfriendly towards you. The trailers for this game consistently blow me away and I just cant wait to lose myself in the game. My prediction is that this may well be a contender for next years Game of the Year. As Link, players can choose to roam Hyrule Field on horseback or on foot before setting off on a trek to distant mountains if they prefer. If you can see it then you can go there. I don’t know too much about the story because I’m trying not to know too much about it before I play but what I do know is that it looks amazing.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Red Dead Redemption was or rather is my all time favourite game and I’ve been waiting for the next addition to the series for what seems an eternity now. Finally 2017 looks like it will deliver a sequel to Red Dead Redemption unless it’s delayed. Rockstar teased gamers around the world but eventually gave us a glimpse of what is to come. details are still sketchy but I personally think we are looking at a prequel to Redemption. Time will tell but in the mean time feel free to hop aboard the hype train. Choo Chooooooo
