Firewatch is heading for the big screen

FirewatchOne of the best and most memorable games that I have played this year is Firewatch. Playing through this story driven game felt like reading a classic Stephen King book or watching one of the film adaptions of his books such as Stand By Me. Well now it seems Firewatch will be heading to the big screen too.

The Hollywood Reporter has reported that the developer of Firewatch, Campo Santo signed a deal with production company Good Universe to develop content for both video games and feature films with Firewatch being their first project of the new partnership.

Firewatch is a first person mystery/adventure game that told the story of Henry (Rich Sommer) who was trying to escape his troubled life and finding himself as a Shoshone National Forest fire lookout. As the story develops he and his supervisor Delilah (Cissy Jones) try to solve some peculiar goings on in the wilderness.

I loved playing through the game and the story completely captured both my attention and imagination. I didn’t want it to end. Whilst there has been some criticism surrounding the ending I feel it’s undeserved. The game did suffer initial performance issues but these couldn’t get in the way of a great story and simply beautiful art style that had me taking screenshots galore.

Campo Santo founder Sean Vanaman said when announcing the deal, “When we met Good Universe we were floored by how they recognize, cultivate and produce incredible stories. It’s rare you meet another group that shares so many of your values and makes the process of creating things even more exciting. We can’t wait to see what we make together,”

“Finding extraordinary content is incredibly exciting, and with the Campo Santo team, we felt an immediate simpatico with their utterly beguiling storytelling and amazing creative instincts,” added Good Universe co-founder Joe Drake.

This news has me very excited and I really can’t wait to see the outcome of this partnership.  Firewatch  has just recently released on Xbox One and has been out on PC and PlayStation 4 since earlier in the year and has already sold over a million copies. Fresh content has also been announced for all platforms. I highly recommend this game if you enjoy a story driven experience.
