Edmund McMillen, the developer of The Binding of Isaac and Super Meat Boy is releasing a small murder mystery game entitled Fingered. The trailer can be seen below and it’s definitely one of the strangest game trailers I’ve seen in a while.
The blurb on the Steam page for the game reads,
“GUILTY! THEY ARE ALL GUILTY! FINGERED is a ‘whodunit’ hyperrealisic police sim where you must finger the guilty and clean up this darn city using the descriptions of the local busy bodies. but everyone’s perspective is different: one man’s fat is another man’s sexy! send him to the chair!!!”
Sentencing seems pretty tough with one guy getting sentenced to 1000 years in the belly of a whale for “peeing on some old coot,” while another guy only gets 8 months for kidnapping 1000 people. Maybe the judge was having an off day.
You’ll have a certain amount of time in which you can finger the right person, if time runs out you’ll finger at random. Unfortunately for the person being fingered they could end up getting the chair, or like the guy who peed on the old coot, a substantial amount of time in the belly of a large sea mammal. So seriously… Be careful who you finger!
The project is a collaboration between McMillen and his familiar trailer artist, James Id which started as a game jam project and then expanded.
It releases on the 18th of this month and will cost $1.87 on Steam which might seem an unusual, price except for the fact that Section 187 is the part of the California Penal Code defining murder.
McMillen’s games tend to be quite addictive and clever, I have an unending addiction to Binding of Isaac myself. At such a small price it makes sense to give this one a try, so I’ll be looking forward to plenty of fingering next week.
