According to an overnight press release sent out by Square-Enix, it seems that the epic looking Final Fantasy VII Remake will release in an episodic format. While the original title released on multiple discs due to the size of the game, it looks like you may be waiting for future episodes to release before progressing through the new version.
The press release said “During this past weekend’s PlayStation Experience in San Francisco, SQUARE ENIX® debuted a new trailer forFINAL FANTASY® VII REMAKE, the full remake of the award-winning role-playing game, FINAL FANTASY VII. The new trailer features the first CG scenes as well as gameplay footage. FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE will be told across a multi-part series, with each entry providing its own unique experience.”
When I think episodic, I now think of Telltale Games and their series such as The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, Game of Thrones etc, so how will Final Fantasy VII be told if it is episodic? How many episodes? Will the story change, or will the same fate be met by a certain you-know-who? Square-Enix’s press release is very vague, and hopefully we will receive more clarification soon.
According to Kotaku, Square-Enix have elaborated somewhat on that initial statement, although it still doesn’t detail exactly what to expect other than “It means instead of concluding in one entry, multiple entries are being considered in development. Each entry will have its own unique story. As a gaming experience, each entry will have the volume of content equal to a full-sized game.”
