Good news Xbox One owning Vault Dwellers! Bethesda is giving you the chance to be among the first to try out mod functionality on the Xbox One version of Fallout 4.
Bethesda had previously announced that mods would be made available after the release of their upcoming add on Far Harbor, which is set to release May 19th. Far Harbor will feature “the largest landmass for an add-on” in any Bethesda game yet, so there’ll be plenty for modders to work with in the future.
You can sign up for the beta here, after you login (or sign up to) a Bethesda account. From there all you need is your Xbox live gamertag. Expect to see the beta start shortly after Far Harbor lands. PS4 users can expect their beta hopefully soon after that.
It’s an exciting time for console owners with mods being introduced. Many seem to think mods amount to cheating, but it’s far from the case. Sure, there are mods that make games easier, but there are plenty that add immersion, challenge and even extra story content and areas. There are close to 10,000 Fallout 4 mods out now on the Nexus including shaders and graphics mods, mods that allow you to recruit certain NPCs as companions, housing overhauls, clothing and hair mods, amazing weather mods and survival mods. Of course not all these will make it to console, but for users to have access to any is a big step and could see some fantastic creativity coming your way soon!
Here’s one mod in action that lets you kill things with lightsabers. It’s not my cup of tea as I’m a stickler when it comes to lore friendliness of mods, but I can imagine people would have fun with this one!
