Even if you haven’t heard of Irish animator David O’Reilly, it’s quite likely that you’ve encountered his work in the past. David wrote, directed and animated an episode of Adventure Time (titled “A Glitch is a Glitch”), he designed the video game that appears in Spike Jonze’s film Her, and most recently, he developed his first game, Mountain, which was published by Double Fine in 2014.
David has taken to the PlayStation blog to announce his newest game, titled Everything, a PS4 exclusive currently in development.
Everything has been described as “a consciousness simulator and open universe exploration game” in which everything you see is a playable character. Literally everything.
Everything sounds fairly abstract, to say the least. The concept comes across as being so broad that it’s rather hard to swallow, so here’s exactly what David wrote:
“In Everything, every single thing is a playable character; if you can see it, you can be it. The game lets you see the entire universe from the point of view of the thousands of things in it. In other words, there is no distinction between you and the world, or between a level and a character. All these things experience and interact with the world differently.
Everything lets you be anything you want. If you ever wanted to see what it’s like to be a horse, or a paperclip, or the sun, this is for you. Your main power in the game is Being (there are more but I won’t ruin the surprise).”
An announcement trailer was released simultaneously, which is viewable below.
David has promised that once development progresses he’ll be posting a lot more information about the game on Facebook and Twitter.
As of yet, a release date for Everything has not been announced, but I did find these nifty screenshots:
