EA admit World War 1 may have been unknown to younger gamers

battlefield 1 cover world war 1This is a pretty strange one alright. Face-palming really. We previously learned that EA and DICE were a little skeptical of a Battlefield title set in World War 1. Primarily because it was very trench warfare-focused. EA Studios boss, Patrick Söderlund initially rejected the idea but his team convinced him otherwise.

Speaking to investors at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch 2016 Global Technology Conference, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen said“World War 1, we were worried that many of the younger consumers out there didn’t know that there was a World War 2 or Vietnam, so World War 1…” as reported by Gamespot.

“I think what people don’t understand about World War 1 is the technology shift that went on during the war,” Jorgensen added.

“People started the war on horseback and ended the war with airplanes and tanks and battleships and submarines. And that’s a huge opportunity for us to be able to do a video game around.”

To some, Battlefield 1 will just be another shooter set in a different era. To others, it could be a fantastic history lesson in the single player campaign, reliving scenarios played out in the early 1900s during the war. I’m certainly excited to see it and I’m sure it won’t be the most upbeat experience. Let’s hope it offers some emotional impact to boot!
