The studio behind open world game Sleeping Dogs, appears to have shut down. Vancouver-based United Front Games have yet to formally announce anything but news has been leaking overnight of the companies death. Its latest title, Smash+Grab, which is currently in Steam early access has also been withdrawn from sale.United Front Games are mostly known for making Sleeping Dogs previously worked on other projects, such as the Sony exclusives ModNation Racers, LittleBigPlanet Karting and Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition. The Developer also collaborated on other titles such as Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Disney Infinity.
United Front Games producer Jen Timms appeared to confirm the studio’s shutdown via Twitter saying she was “Currently mourning the best job I’ve ever had”. It’s always sad to see people losing their jobs and it’s perhaps selfish of us to wonder at this stage what this may mean for the future of Sleeping Dogs.
Currently mourning the best job I've ever had, and the most wonderful team I've ever worked with.
The end of a great era.

Square Enix own the rights to Sleeping Dogs so it is still possible that we will see it at some point in the future but with a different developer at the helm. Sleeping Dogs was released on PS4 and Xbox One not too long ago and the original game is getting on a bit now so many were expecting a rather different announcement for the future of the series.
What ever happens to Sleeping Dogs we wish the developers at United Front Games all the best for the future and we are sure that with their skill sets they will be able to find themselves exciting projects to work on.
