Destiny’s The Taken King smashes PlayStation records

destiny the taken kingDestiny’s The Taken King add-on, which released this week, has smashed a record on the PlayStation platform, having the most digital downloads on day one.

While I suspect there may be a little leg pulling going on here, it’s still a fact that The Taken King has seen the most downloads across all PlayStation platforms. With the ability to pre-load games and downloadable content in time for its launch day, we imagine that many fans had already installed the new content, and just had it activated on day one. I’m not being bitter, I swear!

CEO of Activision Publishing, Eric Hirshberg had a few words to say regarding the successful launch. “Destiny: The Taken King is officially the most downloaded game on day-one in PlayStation history and set a new benchmark for both total Destiny players and peak online concurrency on day-one, so it’s safe to say the Destiny franchise continues to gain momentum. Along with our talented partners at Bungie, we cannot wait to watch the community continue to grow and tackle the King’s Fall Raid kicking off on Friday.”

While many gamers around the world may spew hatred towards Destiny and its way of releasing new content, it’s clear that fans still come back to it and play it regularly, and of course want more of it, going by the record-breaking announcement above. Unfortunately, Bungie or Activision haven’t released actual figures, so we’ll take their word on it for now.
