2012 indie cult hit Dear Esther will be making its way to consoles for the first time this summer, with a release penned for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Being published by Curve Digital, The Chinese Room’s ‘walking simulator’ will certainly be a worthwhile release and a memorable experience for console-only players.
“Dear Esther is a ghost story, told using first-person gaming technologies. Rather than traditional game-play the focus here is on exploration, uncovering the mystery of the island, of who you are and why you are here. Fragments of story are randomly uncovered when exploring the various locations of the island, making every each journey a unique experience.”
It’s without doubt a unique title that will have you thinking, during and after playing. It may not be for the action-seeking players out there, but for those who want a deep story, this may be right up your alley. Dear Esther has won five BAFTA awards in 2013, including Artistic Achievement and Use of Audio.
