Dead Island 2 has become a mystery in terms of development, with it being delayed or switching hands throughout the course of its non-existent life. Last time we saw it, we saw a small glimpse of gameplay, and this came after the awesome CG trailer which made the artist and song popular for a few weeks. Where is it now?
Well, it turns out that Dead Island 2 now has a new developer entirely, and that developer is Sumo Digital. Many will recognise the name, or even the logo from Little Big Planet and/or Sega and Sonic All Star Racing/Transformed, the Sonic kart racing title. Yep, the guys behind such cutesy games are changing things up and will focus on zombie survival/slaying action RPG development!
Here’s that trailer, with music by Pigeon John, ‘The Bomb’.
MCV were told of the game’s fate. “Sumo showed so much understanding of the brand, had creative ideas and an excellent vision that was aligned with our own,” Dr Klemens Kundratitz, Koch Media CEO told the site.
“It just made perfect sense for us to move the project to them. We will reveal more details at a later stage, but for now I’d like to say that we are obviously super excited about the progress that we are making with them.”
Last week, we learned that Deep Silver are re-releasing a remastered collection of Dead Island and its Riptide spin-off for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as well as PC. With the news regarding Dead Island 2, it makes a little bit of sense, to help bring awareness back to the open world co-op zombie survival RPG. That’s a lot of description right there!
