Dark Souls Franchise Ships 8.5 Million Copies

Dark Souls 2With Dark Souls 3 announced and releasing in 2016, the previous games in the Dark Soul Franchise has surpassed 8.5 million sales to date.

Japanese website Famitsu recently attended a presentation publishing the sales figures. Dark Souls 1, including the Artorias of the Abyss, alone make up 5.6 million of these sales. Dark Souls 2, including the Scholar of the First Sin version on Xbox One and PS4, makes up about 2.9 Million sales worldwide. These figures do not include the sales of either Demon Souls nor Bloodborne.

The Souls series popularity is hugely down to its difficulty, as well as how open to interpretation the story is. It is also a very popular game among speedrunners. No doubt with Dark Souls 3 on the way, sales will continue to do well as fans prepare to die again… and again, and again….

Dark Souls 3 sees Miyazaki return to the helm, as he didn’t have much to do with the second game which many feel why it wasn’t as good as the first. It impressed many at E3, and there is a lot of excitement for the game. Dark Souls 3 launches in 2016 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
