This February, in the world of Destiny, the Guardians will be celebrating the rare variety of companionship that can only be found in the heat of battle. You’re invited to the Tower to partake in the real party, a ritual known by the brave as Crimson Days.
Destiny’s first ever Valentine’s Day event will be of a similar scale to Festival of the Lost and as well as a game update, it will also include a brand new 2v2 Crucible mode called Crimson Doubles. “It features a special twist, born of new gameplay and mechanics that only battle-tested star-crossed lovers will appreciate. You’ll need a dancing partner – preferably one that compliments your fighting style. The two of you will have a chance to earn some “sweet” loot together in the Crucible. To receive your gifts, you’ll have to put your differences aside and fight well as a couple,” says the Bungie newsletter.
I’m sure more details will come before February 9th, when the Crimson Days event goes live. Maybe some romantic emojis will join the storefront? The event will run for a full week when it launches. Aside from that, Bungie have made some ‘under the hood’ changes to matchmaking as well, without telling fans about their research, in order to attain more raw data.
“We have super-secret mathematical systems that measure your performance and rate you as a potential combatant. It is constantly being re-evaluated after every match, and we even use different skill buckets depending on what playlist you’re in.”
The Iron Banner is also coming back next week, starting on Tuesday, January 26th, 10AM PST until Tuesday, February 2nd, 12AM PST and with it comes a new game mode called Rift. Have your team carry the Spark for as long as possible, and in doing so, earn some rewards.
