A posting on NeoGaf leads us to believe that an imminent announcement of Minecraft Wii U is upon us. This will be the first time that Minecraft appears on a Nintendo platform, and if true, could be a fantastic start to something special.
The posting on NeoGaf is of the PEGI ratings board, which reads “The content of this game is suitable for persons aged 7 years and over only. It contains: Non realistic looking violence towards fantasy characters – Pictures or sounds likely to be scary to young children – Non realistic looking violence towards characters which although human are not very detailed”
Tonight, at 10pm GMT, Nintendo are hosting another Nintendo Direct, and this could be the official reveal of Minecraft Wii U. If this turns out to be true, the Wii U’s Gamepad could potentially make this version super awesome, with the use of its touch screen for the map and inventory. As well as that, if it sells well enough, it could prompt a release on the 3DS, which could work just as the Pocket Edition of Minecraft does already, letting players build on the go, while commuting or waiting for doctors/dentists.
Before Microsoft’s acquisition of Mojang and Minecraft, it was said that the reason behind the lack of a Wii U release was the less than desirable user-base on the platform. The Xbox, PlayStation and PC have massive install bases, including both generations of the consoles. It may be a bit late for the Wii U, with Nintendo already developing their new system, but for those with a Wii U now, maybe a few Nintendo exclusive features would draw fans in? Mario and Nintendo character packs for example? A Minecraft Mushroom Kingdom? Bowser’s Castle map? The potential is wide and varied, and this is exciting!
