DICE are still celebrating the epic launch of Battlefield 1, which has gone on to become the biggest launch title in the studio’s history. While the game is in the hands of the players, DICE still have a lot of work ahead of them, and they have already announced new features and updates on the way to keep the gameplay fresh and exciting.
First up, there’s the Hardcore mode. Missing from launch, Hardcore mode lowers your health, weapons do more damage, and pin-pointing enemies isn’t as easy as it is in normal modes. Also, friendly fire becomes a factor, so gas, flamethrowers, tank shells, airstrikes and gunfire will all be hazardous from all angles. Maybe avoid the ‘shoot first’ mindset when going into Hardcore!
The feature will be added ‘soon’, but DICE promise more information closer to its launch.
DICE have also stated that they are changing the layout of the Suez map in Conquest to make the matches more balanced and the map size more fitting. They have expanded the layout to feature five instead of three flags, while also reducing the capture area size of the two control points located within the map’s villages (currently flag A and C) to create more dynamic matches.
Furthermore, they are adding one armored vehicle to each team’s base to give dominated teams a better chance to quickly get across the map and capture a control point behind enemy lines.
Custom games are also coming to Battlefield 1, thanks to ‘Battlefest’. Kicking off on November 16th, Battlefest will offer players log-in rewards, a livestream, a unique Battlepack revision, community missions, and much more.
A new mode coming with Battlefest is ‘Fog of War’, a Team Deathmatch variant which ups the fog, lowers your visual range, and removes the map and player names over their heads. It could get messy, especially if it can be combined with Hardcore mode, if it’s available at the time.
Finally, Giant’s Shadow is an upcoming new map for Battlefield 1 and will be arriving in December as a free add-on. There is very little information on it but expect DICE to give it a proper reveal closer to the time of its release.
In other Battlefield 1 news, DICE have revealed a bunch of statistics regarding the launch of the game, with player counts,
- 59 million hours of gameplay
- 9 million hours spent in Operations
- 32 million Battlepacks earned
- 1.6 million Behemoths deployed
