Senior Designer of Rise of the Tomb Raider, Michael Brinker, said said to Australian website Finder that there’s a 50/50 chance that they will make the game reality, as a lot of their developers really want to make it.
“It’s a 50/50 chance,” he said. “We have in-house developers who really want to make that game. It’s interesting because people look back at our history and our franchises and see that we have some really iconic IPs.”
Brinker said that they are often coming up with ideas and discussing the game around the office, which gives us a lot of hope for a true revival to the series like CD have already done with Tomb Raider.
“So gamers wonder ‘Where are they and what are they doing?’ Well, we’re always tossing around and talking about ideas. It really is 50/50.”
If you’re worried about rights, Square Enix, their parent company, own the rights to Legacy of Kain so Crystal Dynamics shouldn’t have any trouble securing rights to making the game. Square did attempt to make another Legacy of Kain game a few years back titled Legacy of Kain: Dead Sun, but sadly that fell through instead leading to the creation of the free-to-play multiplayer game, Nosgoth.
While it’s far from confirmed, this gives fans of the series a lot of hope for a new game. If Crystal Dynamics can do what they did for Tomb Raider to Legacy of Kain, that should mean many pleased fans and a whole host of new ones.
