Hardware company ASUS has announced a partnership with Adblock Plus, the popular software for blocking advertisements on the web. From now on (Or until the deal expires) all ASUS devices, such as Computers, Smartphones or Tablets, will come pre-installed with Adblock Plus. This will cause all non-whitelisted ads to be blocked.
There has been some interesting news from a NASA press conference today, as it was announced that the Kepler telescope has found a planet that shares many characteristics with our own planet. The planet, Kepler-452b has a radius around 60% larger than earth’s, but orbits it’s star at a similar distance, meaning that if the planet hosts water, it could be hospitable to life.
SETI, the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence, began in 1960 when the astronomer Frank Drake first used an 85 foot radio telescope to detect alien interstellar radio transmissions originating from outside our own solar system. Unfortunately, SETI has remained a fringe science with only small amounts of funding and small amounts of observation time on high class telescopes. Today, in a live webcast from London Russian entrepreneur Yuri Milner and the physicist Stephen Hawking revealed a new start for the search for extra terrestrials.
This week New Horizons beamed back some amazing images of the not-a-planet-anymore, Pluto. Of course, being a physicist I couldn’t let this opportunity to write about science slip by, so here’s some interesting facts about the mission along with a few nice images.

According to Variety.com, “Asked about plans to block any X-rated content or apps during a panel at the first Silicon Valley Virtual Reality Conference in San Jose, California, on Monday, Oculus founder Palmer Luckey stated: “The rift is an open platform. We don’t control what software can run on it,” adding: “And that’s a big deal.”
