An unofficial Call of Duty blog, ‘COD Online Blog’ held a little Twitter pole this week, asking fans where they would like to see the series go. Following the results of the pole, it seems that a majority of the fans want Call of Duty to return to its roots, with the future warfare considered overdone at this point.
The pole gave fans three choices to choose from, regarding which era to go to next. These were Past, Present or Future. As you can see from the results below, 52% of voters want to return to the past, with the fantastic titles like Call of Duty 2 and World at War. 37% said present day, although those games are in abundance in other franchises. Most notable however, is how only 11% of voters want to see another Call of Duty title set in the future.
Which era do you want to see Call of Duty go to in @InfinityWard's next title?

With Advanced Warfare and Black Ops 3 already covering future combat, fans may be tiring of jetpacks and high-tech future weaponry. It has been a long time since we have played a game set in World War 2, or even the likes of Vietnam. Another first person shooter set in World War 2 that held promise was Enemy Front, which ended up being somewhat mediocre, despite the inclusion of some pretty interesting features and mechanics.
While many of us may have enjoyed storming the beat of Normandy in Call of Duty 2, or fighting in the open battlefields of Battlefield 1942, the first person shooter genre has seemingly just shifted to modern and future combat, and while a nice change of scenery when it happened (thanks, Call of Duty 4), isn’t it time we went back again?
