Luke Smith, the creative director in charge of Destiny’s The Taken King content, has responded to comments and ‘fan theories’ made on NeoGaf, saying that it’s all just fan fiction, and that nothing has been cut.
“Love you guys, but sorry to wet blanket,” he said. “Almost all of this is fan fiction mixed with some hopes gleaned from ViDOCs from when Destiny was in development infancy in the forever ago.” Of course, he’s referring to in-development videos which showed sections of the game, and before release, it’s easy to imagine that some content was shifted, removed, taken out because it wasn’t complete in time for release, or what have you.
One issue he addressed related to the Vault of Glass;
Theory: “Vault of Glass consisted of rescuing Kabr and fighting along side him against Atheon, he would then sacrifice himself and forge Aegis Shield, allowing your team to finish off Atheon. But after the rework of the story of the game, this was scrapped and made into a Grimoire instead.”
What Smith had to say: “E.g., That was literally never a plan for VOG. I wrote the high level story for Vault (Kabr, Praedyth), named the armor sets/AI/bosses and wrote the weapon/armor descriptions and gave that to the writers who wrote the deep lore for the Grimoire.”
Other issues listed on NeoGaf include:
- When gear was fully leveled, you could purchase a final upgrade which increased defense and attack but locked out previous choices
- Hard Light had a final perk which made it an ARC weapon, but locked out previous choices, so the devs dropped the perk.
- There are 3 factions not present in the game.
