One of the most beautiful titles to grace PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 over last generation was Starbreeze Studios’ Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. While many may have skipped this wonderful tale, those who experienced its gorgeous, heart-tugging story will never forget it. Now, we have an opportunity to experience it again, as it has now become available on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is a special game. In it, you control both brothers at the same time, one younger and weaker than the other. You control the older brother on one stick, and the other brother on the second stick. Perform actions with the big brother with the left trigger, and right trigger for the younger brother. On paper, that sounds easy, but try move both brothers at the same time, and you will struggle at first. That is part of the beauty and development of the game’s story.
You will soon find yourself becoming more able, and this represents the teamwork that both brothers indulge in throughout their adventure. Their father is dying, and the children embark on an epic quest to gather water from the Tree of Life. The game is mostly played from an isometric view, with sighs and ‘Simlish’ style conversation between the characters. It’s just beautiful. There are plenty of puzzles to navigate, and while not difficult, they are very creative, and emphasise teamwork between the two brothers.
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is available for $19.99 or its equivalent in your region, and take my word, it’s a game you must play. Please. Do it for yourself. You owe it to yourself. It’s not long, you will probably venture through it in one long evening session, but you won’t want to put it down.
