Blood Bowl 2 is the sequel to the 2009 game, which takes the classic Games Workshop boardgame and turned it into a video game. The game replicates the rules of the turn based American Football-esque sport, with the addition of injuries and certain death for your players.
A new career mode takes you and your team through the old world of Warhammer, pitting your team against teams made up of Orcs, Skaven, Lizardmen and other races from the Warhammer universe. Play well, and your players can rank up, learning new skills and abilities, and help move your team further up the league.
The game follows some fantastic rules, so don’t let the turn based gameplay turn you off. Think of chess mixed with table top football, and you’re almost there! I recently picked up the original game for my Xbox 360 and I have been having a blast with it. It’s tough, but very addictive.
Unfortunately, Blood Bowl 2 only includes eight teams but additional teams are available as preorder bonus and future DLC. The game uses a brand new engine and updates the rules since the last game, fixing minor bugs and issues that players experienced, and currently has a Metacritic rating of 78% on PC from 4 review sites to date.
