Blood Bowl 2 gets annoying pre-order exclusives

blood bowl 2Blood Bowl 2 is coming in September of this year, and already the pre-order incentives are both confusing, and off-putting. As a gamer, and a fan of the Blood Bowl experience, both board game and video game, I want all the content, and it feels like I’ll be missing out because I dislike pre-ordering. I will not hand over my money until I know what I’m getting, and that it works.

A pre-order campaign has begun, and varies on both console platforms and pc. On the PlayStation 4, if you pre-order through a specific store, you can get the LIzardman team added to your game. On the Xbox One, you can pre-order to guarantee getting the Wood Elves team. On the pc however, both are available, but you have to choose just one….

The Lizardmen come with their own AI, design and players: Skinks, Saurus and Kroxigors. They also host their own Star Players: Slibli and Hemlock.

The Wood Elves come with their own AI, design and players: Passers, Wardancers, Catchers, Linemen and the violent Treeman. They also bring their own star players: Dolfar Longstride and Jordell Freshbreeze.

What I want to know is, what of the other team? If I pre-order the PlayStation version, can I get the Wood Elves at all? If so, how long must I wait, and how much extra will I have to pay for a single team? The pre-order incentives these days just ruin the experience before the game even releases, and as I said above, I would like all of the content, which is clearly made for release on day one, and I would be happy to pay for more add-ons down the line to add to my experience.

Blood Bowl the video game is based off the tabletop board game by Games Workshop, which pits the Warhammer universe into an American football type game of violence and touchdowns. The board game was fantastic, the original release of the video game was rather uninspired, but this one looks like a hell of a lot of fun!

For now though, I will enjoy the Overview trailer, and wait for its release on September 22nd. Promote your game by offering bonus content, not restricting it behind platform specific pre-order bonuses.

I don’t really get those pre-order incentives. It seems to punish people for buying certain versions or not being able to afford/want to afford to prevent order.
