Beyond Two Souls releases next week as part of Quantic Dream’s upcoming collection.

Beyond Two SoulsQuantic Dream are to release two of their titles for the Playstation 4 beginning with Beyond Two Souls.
Many will be more familiar with the original title called Heavy Rain and many will also be familiar with the importance of pressing X. Why X? Well, to Jason of course!
These will be released as remastered titles. Love or hate them, they sell by the bucket and it’s you guys who are buying them, whether you admit it or not.
So, what can we expect in these two amazing games? Quite an improvement, it would seem.

To begin with we have Beyond Two Souls, which is a spiritual sequel to Heavy Rain.
In this interactive drama action-adventure title you control Jodie Holmes (played by Ellen Page) who through a psychic link to an invisible entity can use supernatural powers. Quite different from the cast of Heavy Rain.
Beyond Two Souls involves a mixture of QTE and conversational prompts which many will be used to from the array of Telltale games that have been released over the years.
The updated features are as follows:

  • Enhanced 1080p graphics including motion blur, bloom and depth of field effects, as well as improved lighting and shadows. The game also makes use of the DualShock 4 speaker to improve immersion when playing as the Entity.
  • Decisions are highlighted at the end of each scene and compared with those made by other players.
  • You can now play the game in chronological order right from the start – a much requested feature in the PS3 version!
  • Increased difficulty in certain fight scene, combined with improved controls for action sequences.
  • Includes the “Enhanced Experiments” DLC.

As I quoted earlier about Telltale recently popularising features in this title it seems more influence has leaked into the remaster by including a feature to allow the player to see what their choices were and how they stack up in the world with other players.

Beyond Two Worlds will release digitally in the US on the PS Store next week, November 24th for $29.99 and Europe on the 26th November for €29.99 / £24.99.
Those who purchase Beyond Two Souls will be entitled to a discount for Heavy Rain next year.

Heavy Rain is a title many familiar to the PS3 will remember. Genre defining, dark, depressing yet somewhat uplifting. The main characters all had an issue of sorts, be it insomnia or drug addiction. They were less like Hollywood heroes and more like normal people, which is what gave it the real feel it had.
Whether you were pressing X to Jason in the beginning, or delving into the depths of the mystery that was the Origami Killer in order to save a child from certain, watery death, Heavy Rain kept you guessing, on you toes and full of feels at all times.

Press X to Jason
Special edition Heavy Rain Dualshock 3, anyone?

Updated features can be expected to be similar to the above. The screen tearing that sometimes occurred in the PS3 version should be no longer.
Considering how amazing this game looked back in the day and probably still to this day (I must give it a play again sometime), but imagine how it will look, run and feel on the PS4?

Heavy Rain releases next year in March and, as stated above, you will be entitled to a discount if you purchased Beyond Two Souls previously, making sure you pay no more for both titles than you would for the collection.
