You may have heard the story from a few days ago, where a hardcore Fallout fan saved up all his bottlecaps, around 2,240 of them weighing 11.2 pounds, to Bethesda for a Fallout 4 pre-order. Well, Bethesda loved it and have honored that pre-order.
The Imgur user GatorMacheteJr, who posted images of his bottlecap collection and the letter he sent, confirmed that he will be receiving a pre-order of the game as either a physical copy or as a Steam key. However, don’t expect them to do the same for everyone who sends in over 2,000 bottlecaps as they said they will honor it only because he is the first person to ever try such a stunt.
GatorMacheteJr received an email from Matt “Gstaff” Grandstaff, Community Manager at Bethesda Softworks.
“He told me since I was the first person to do this, I would be receiving a copy of the game this November,” said GatorMacheteJr on Imgur, “and that he would be running my caps over to deposit them at the People’s Bank of Point Lookout.”
Matt Grandstaff also posted on his Twitter that his office now smelt of beer, with a picture of the box of bottlecaps.
“Anyway, I just wanted to say “thank you” to everyone who helped in making this happen,” said GatorMacheteJr . “People were simultaneously worried about my rate of drinking (I’m fine, thanks), and were also disappointed in my lack of drinking (I’m fine, thanks).”
GatorMacheteJr also said that someone on Imgur offered to get him a copy of Fallout 4 if the joke pre-order didn’t work, which is really nice of them.
I didn’t have much doubt that Bethesda wouldn’t honor it, as not only is it hilarious, but a great way for them to gain some good PR on the cheap.
