Hines, Bethesda’s VP of PR and Marketing, spoke to MCV on their hopes for the title, saying: “I think [Fallout 4] can top Skyrim. It could be our biggest release ever.”
Hines does admit that it is still too early to call for sure, and Skyrim sold extremely well, but confidence is high and the game is looking great.
“it is part of my job to build the megaphone that we hold up to the game, and the game decides just how loud it goes. Just how big it is going to be is hard to say. Skyrim was a massively big deal.”
Skyrim sold a massive 20 million copies across all platforms as of January 2014, with 3.5 million alone in the first 48 hours, so that is one tough mark to beat.
Hines also said that they made the right decision having an E3 conference this year, especially when you look at the fantastic line-up of games they had for us.
“For this year, with everything we had going on, the E3 showcase was the right way to talk about it. We could have done that at the booth and been just as successful, but the showcase felt like the better way to go. I liked the idea of being able to show it to everyone at the same time.”
Bethesda have every right to feel confident with a fantastic showing at E3, a favourite for many, with great games such as Dishonoured 2, Doom and of course Fallout 4 at our doorsteps.
What are your thoughts on what Hines has said? Think Fallout 4 can prove to be as successful, if not more so than Bethesda’s last massive RPG, Skyrim? Let us know in the comments!
