Revealed at the end of the Red Bull Battlegrounds Capcom Pro Tour tournament in Seattle yesterday, Akuma will be the next downloadable character set to bolster the roster in Street Fighter V. Capcom revealed the news with the aid of a teaser trailer. Check it out below.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to notice the change in symbol, or ‘kanji’ on the back of his gi. According to EventHubs, the symbol means ‘above man’ or ‘god’, and with Akuma being rather demonic and hellbent on destruction, we’d believe him.
According to Techno Buffalo at the end of October, “The game launched with sales at 1.4 million copies in the first month, and in its most recent report, Capcom confirmed that the game still stands at 1.4 million copies, selling less than 100,000 copies over the last half year.”
Will Akuma’s eventual arrival breathe more life into Street Fighter V, or will his presence only be received by the hardcore fighting community who already own the game? It’s also a damn shame that the game is limited to PC and PlayStation 4 players too. To this day, I’m still aggravated by the fact I can’t play it on Xbox One, after buying all releases of Street Fighter, new and old on my 360.
