Here’s something I didn’t think anyone expected; we’re getting a Cloverfield sequel. Now keep in mind I may have a ton of people cry out that this isn’t a sequel. Well J.J. Abrams is saying that it’s a “blood relative” to the original monster from 2008. 8 years after the first surprise hit we’re getting a movie that isn’t found footage and looks more like the fallout and current state of the world in Cloverfield, known as the enigmatic “10 Cloverfield Lane”
The funny thing is that this movie wasn’t really a complete secret. 10 Cloverfield Lane was previously titled “The Cellar and Valencia” but Abrams has now put out a statement that seems to indicate it was long meant to be some sort of new Cloverfield film. “The idea came up a long time ago during production. We wanted to make it a blood relative of Cloverfield. The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible.”
A year ago, one of the main actresses, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, was interviewed about her role in the movie, still known as “The Cellar and Valencia” She said, “It was really fun. It was really cool. Me and John Goodman stuck in a bunker together for two months. It was awesome! It was a really intense and really fun shoot. He was such an incredible actor to get to act opposite and he’s so perfect for the part because throughout the whole movie you’re wondering if he’s telling the truth, is he trustworthy, is he a nice guy, is he not a nice guy? And it really goes on a roller-coaster of thinking he’s definitely a horrible guy and then no, he’s just misunderstood. You’re really just on the ride with my character in terms of who she can trust in the scenario and if she’s safer with him or safer escaping and battling whatever war is happening or not happening outside. So it’s a pretty interesting one.”
The best part about 10 Cloverfield Lane is that it’s coming out March 11th, 2016, only two months from now. Watch the trailer below and let us know what you think!
